Vor ein paar Monaten bekam ich meine erste mechanische Tastatur: ein altes IBM Model M, das ich bei meiner Arbeit in einem elektronischen Papierkorb gefunden habe :)

Ich hatte mich schon früher für mechanische Tastaturen interessiert, Stuff usw. gelesen, aber noch nie eine benutzt. Ich habe das Gefühl sofort geliebt, die Schwere und die Unbequemlichkeit, aber vor allem die taktile (und akustische) Rückmeldung der Knickfeder.

Also nahm ich die Tastatur mit nach Hause, reinigte sie gründlich und steckte sie in meinen PC, der zum Glück noch einen PS / 2-Port hat. Ich war ziemlich enttäuscht, als ich herausfand, dass die Tastatur bei einem Kaltstart nicht erkannt wurde. Es funktionierte jedoch nach einem Neustart oder beim Beenden des Ruhezustands. Im BIOS oder im Betriebssystem hat es nicht funktioniert.

Mein Motherboard ist ein Motherboard der Asus Ivy Bridge-Generation mit einem Intel-Chipsatz, aber einige Recherchen im Internet haben gezeigt, dass das Problem auch bei anderen Modellen auftreten kann.

Wie kann ich dieses Problem vermeiden?

So the problem seemed to be on an electronic level, with the motherboard unable to supply enough power to the keyboard on a cold boot.

The work-around I found was the following:

In the BIOS (well actually UEFI) enable the option called power on PS/2, or wake on PS/2 or something similar.

This seems to make the motherboard keep the keyboard powered even when the PC is shut down. Then you can start the PC by pressing a key, and in any case the keyboard works directly after booting, no need to reboot.
